Summary
The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx. Facing directly from west to east, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile River. The face of the Sphinx represents the pharaoh Khafre. It measures 73m long and 19m tall and is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt dated at 2558-2532 BC.
