Summary

This is a three piece, multicolor necker woggle assembly. I created this design so the youth in my group could make a project of choosing their own unique colorways, and then assemble their own with a bit of glue while we talk about the utility of the scout necker.

These are made to fit Outdoor Service Guides' full square neckers.

They have a 28mm hole. If you are building woggles for OSG neckers, you can just print as-is in your colors of choice and be done! If you are with BSA or another organization using triangular neckers, these will be too loose and fall off. You will need to scale down when slicing, maybe to ~60%. The fit will be tighter in this case (you may need to lean into it) but they should still go together. The first run was assembled with less than half the "relaxed" tolerance they have now - the green and black one pictured is from that run - so give it a shot.

Print Settings

  • Printer brand:

    Creality

  • Printer:

    Ender 3 Pro

  • Rafts:
    No
  • Supports:
    Yes
  • Resolution:
    .2
  • Infill:
    10%
  • Filament brand:

    Several

  • Filament color:

    Any

  • Filament material:

    PLA+

  • Notes:
    • Print two of the "inner" parts and one "outer" for each complete woggle. When assembled, the inner parts should be touching and flush all around.

    • Use more infill if you want, but probably not less. I don't imagine the material matters much as long as it's not grippy.

    • The supports are so the tabs on the "outer" don't print into thin air. They are barely freckles and come off with no trouble.

Post-Printing

Tolerance for assembly is built in, but it's nice and close. Depending on the tuning of your printer, you might need to trim any squishing on the build plate side of the "inners" to get them to fit into the "outer." You should not need any percussive assistance to assemble these, squeezing with just your fingers should be enough. With a well-tuned printer, you might even be able to take them apart carefully. This is why I recommend you let the scouts glue them to finish the assembly.

The "outer" has four tabs inside, which fit into the slots on the "inners." This is not to prevent the them from spinning, but to make sure you don't over-insert them (push through) and there will be an even amount of the top and bottom color(s). Be sure to trim off even the smallest remnants of the supports from the tabs on the "outer" section or your "inners" will not sit perfectly flush together. See the purple and grey picture for an example.
