"Traditional" IDC cable assembly techniques not working? Tired of destroying your WR-WST connector pins when trying to press them onto ribbon cable? Don't have the right tool?

This is a WR-WST die for pressing the SKEDD IDC connectors onto the ribbon cable.

Simply attach to your WR-WST connector, preload your vise (or arbor press), insert your ribbon cable, and clamp to assemble.

This 3d print is neither made nor endorsed by the original connector vendor and is provided as a tool for enthusiasts and hobbyists. Use at your own discretion.

How I Designed This

Before Designing

I used the "traditional" techniques to attach my IDC cables before encountering any that were challenging such as the WR-WST.

The "traditional" technique uses a vise or arbor press to press the IDC connector into place on the ribbon cable.

Steps During Designing

Since this is my first time using FreeCAD to design my solids, I had a hard time figuring out how to create perimeters in sketches. Apparently, it's somewhat different from how other programs do it.

Since I am already used to making very complicated sketches with editable parameters, the "spreadsheet"-able sketches in FreeCAD did not deter me.

During this process, I had my "pockets" completely missing or reversed. It was a good learning process, and we have a usable die at the end of the day.
