Summary
I have a raspberry pi zero W with pin headers soldered in. This prevents the camera lid from fitting, since the pins touch the back of the camera.
I managed to design a jumper that goes in between the base and the camera lid for the original rpi zero case to give it enough space for nothing to be touching.
I think the tolerances can be lowered a bit, but I ended up using the kind of double tape you find in smartphone screens to keep it together.
