Summary

I couldn't find a suitable fan mount for the LC Racing LC10B5 so I designed this fan mount to hold a 30 mm fan along the same axis as the motor. The nylon lock nut sticking up from the chassis made this a little tricky, but this solution works fine. It can support a 30 mm fan up to a thickness of 11 mm. I can still remove the lock nut that sits in front of the fan with my socket driver. I have gone through 2 full batteries testing this fan and the mount. With no other changes to the car my motor temp went from 180 deg C with no fan down to 120 deg C with a single 30 mm fan installed. The mount helf up completely fine.

I made this out of PLA+ which I think is a better choice than regular PLA as it is stronger and has better heat resistance.

To install, you will need to remove the centre diff to get the rear centre drive shaft out of the way. Remove the M3x10 mm screw where the fan is to be installed and secure the fan and mount using an M3x12 mm screw instead. I found an M3x12 screw in the spares bag that came with the car.

Print Settings

  • Printer:

    Tenlog TL-D3 Pro

  • Rafts:
    No
  • Supports:
    No
  • Resolution:
    0.2 mm
  • Infill:
    20%
  • Filament brand:

    Fashion 3D

  • Filament color:

    any

  • Filament material:

    PLA+

  • Notes:

20% infill seemed fine, although higher infill can only make it stronger.

When printing, I rotated the item 90 deg around the Z-axis so that the mount is aligned along the Y-axis of the print bed. This is so that when the print bed moves back and forth the skinny parts do not wobble. The wobble could result in a bent print.
