Summary

WARNING: THIS PROJECT WILL DRY OUT YOUR PERMANENT MARKERS

Update 10/1/23: Have uploaded base to connect to ender sprite extruder. Also added a link to the adapter at the end of the summary.

This project was inspired from all of the multi material, multi-colored units floating around on the internet. The idea was to make a low(er) cost alternative to the SMUFF, The Chameleon, Prusa's MMU, Mosaic Palette, and ERCF. At this point in time, it only runs on Klipper due to to being able to use mutiple MCU's. I am currently looking into ways of using Octoprint to use as a controller for a wider range of printers.

The ColorCube module has space for up to 4 permanent markers (only sharpie and shuttle art markers have been tested at this time), and each module can be stacked on top of each other for several different colors! Only one filament is used, so it's best to use either clear/transparent, or white for better color.

In order to use this project, you are going to need a Raspberry Pi (equivalent: Le Potato, Orange Pi) or a laptop/pc to run Klipper and the servo controller(also flashed with Klipper), 9g s90 servos. I am using Pimoroni's Servo2040(rp2040 is covered by klipper) for form factor, and visual aid(it has neopixels), but a pico with a servo controller board should do just fine.

Running on Klipper, you will need some "Toolhead" macros in order to switch between colors. These toolheads will run servos, turning a gear to pick the color or tool head you want. I added a text file of the servocontrol.cfg as an example, also you can use it as is, just copy paste into klipper.

In your printer.cfg file:

[mcu servo_board]
serial: /dev/serial/by-id/(your mcu-rp2040 id here)

[include servocontrol.cfg] (name it whatever, but this is where we are going to put the servo gcode in another file in Klipper)

Make sure when setting up in your slicer to use multiple extruders to the amount of colors you are using (plus the original extruder). The gear rail is glued together with superglue to the sharpie holder.
The base that connects to my sprite extruder comes from user wjsteele as an adapter to hold the mount. The mount you glue to the base and also the ColorCube itself.

Custom Section

Cost?

Pimoroni's Servo2040 = $30-$35 USD

If going with Raspberry Pi Pico + Servo Driver Module, waveshare has them both = $18USD

The Servo's = $10-$15 on amazon for 6

Things to add? Probably longer servo cords, maybe a case for the pico/pimoroni
