Summary

Wife wanted to be able to watch movies/shows on her phone or tablet on her Precor EFX 815 elliptical. It has little shelf things but when you put something on them, it blocks the controls. These brackets place a tablet/phone above the machine, out of the way of the controls and at eye level for us (~5'8").

Modify the model height on the build plate as-needed to thicken it to whatever size good quality double-sided foam tape you have on hand (foam tape, to fill gaps between the bracket and elliptical). I used a narrow piece of 3M VHB foam tape I had ordered for a previous project for this, but it's not a commonly available width, so YMMV if you try to print without scaling to your needs.

Post-Printing

Cleanup

Clean the model of any stringing (using a heat gun or your fingers) and remove any finger oils on the inside edge where it clips to the elliptical control panel (rubbing alcohol wipedown).

Apply Double-Sided Tape

Adhere a narrow strip of double sided foam tape (3M VHB) to the mount where it attaches to the top and rearward side of the elliptical control panel, and do not remove the backing material.

Installation

Without removing the backing tape, align the brackets to the desired width and clip them on temporarily. I put them about the same width as the Precor logo above the display using the edge of a book and counting the pixels on the display to help keep things straight.
Once you have the brackets where you want them, mark the edges of the brackets on the elliptical control panel with masking tape to note their position.
Remove the brackets and clean the plastic surface of the elliptical panel using rubbing alcohol and ensure it is dry.
Remove the backing from the foam tape and re-install the clips on the machine, starting with hooking the bottom edge of the clip in first and carefully sliding it into place, using the masking tape alignment marks you made earlier.
Apply pressure on the bracket downwards and towards you to properly adhere the tape and bracket to the machine.

How I Designed This

Evening project start to finish. Scanned using a RevoPoint Range 3D scanner with tracking stickers applied to the elliptical machine control panel. Cleaned up the point cloud and meshed it to a low-ish poly model using Revo Scan 5. Imported the mesh into TinkerCAD and modeled the bracket based off a slice of roughly the middle of the control panel. Version 1 had a longer horizontal span with multiple phone/tablet angle adjustment slots that weren't needed, bottom slots that were a little too small for thicker phone cases, and a bottom edge arm that wasn't long enough to help the stand stay in position. Printed one and quickly realized what I had to do for V2, printed V2 in a few minutes without any bed leveling or flow calibration at Ludicrous Speed and tested, then printed a copy (again without bed leveling or flow calibration, plus Ludicrous Speed) and finished the project.
