Heyho :)

Here is part 2/3 of my DIY projector screen project.

A practical fastener for the screen (or other thinner objects).

It works quite simply and reliably (already tested for a few months on high tension).

Part 3/3 of my project is also a screen tensioner. However, this requires one screw + nut per part. This makes the part more complex, clunkier and slower to install, but increases the tensioning force and reliability even further. I used it for the corners of my canvas.

Function

Installation: Simply place the two parts under and over the piece to be tensioned and slide them into each other. The more you push the parts together, the greater the contact pressure and therefore the holding force due to the wedge effect.

You can test if the assembly is correct by pulling hard on the device.

To release, simply push the wedge out from behind.

Design Features

“Wings” The wings are there so that you can apply enough force to the part when tensioning. The thumbs then rest against the wings. The wings also help when releasing the wedge. The index fingers, for example, can then act as a lever.

Strong teeth: I have tested many prototypes with different raised teeth. This design worked the most reliably. The teeth bite deeply without damaging the canvas and distribute the force relatively evenly.

Strong Geometry: I designed the parts in such a way that they can be made as stable as possible with the FDM printing process and yet are easy to print.

Skalability
Since all parts are 3D printed you can scale the clamps up/ down as you like. Simply make sure to use more perimeter if scaled up. That provides more strength! So if you have a bigger rope you can simply customize this design for your needs.

Parts Explanation

Rope Adapter : This Part can be used as an adapter for (5 mm) ropes so so that they have less resistance and tension is better balanced.

Tensioner Screwmount: This design can be used if you don' t want to set the system under tension and just screw the clips to a piece of wood for example.

Rotation Arm: This design was intened to be used for the corners. In the end I solved that problem with annother solution :) But maybe you have a use for it ,-)

Material Choice

If the clamps are under tension for a longer period of time I would highly recommend not to use materials that can deform over time (like PLA). I used PETG for my project.

Printing Instructions

Supports: If you optimized bridging you will not need supports. Else I had good results with some tree supports under the overhang area.

Perimeter: I used 4 Perimeter

Infill: I used 100% infill. But sth. like 40% should work too.

Layer height: I used 0,2 mm with PETG. That works fine :)

If you like my work and would like to support me so that I can continue to invest a lot of work in free designs, I would be grateful for any small donation.
