Summary

I added octoprint on a Raspberry Pi to my printer (mounted on the front of the printer). This pi is powered by a separate power supply; and octoprint can switch a relay that will cut of the power to the power supply of the printer.
This hardware needed a housing. That's why I designed this model.

It consists of two parts. The "inner" prevents the hardware from touching the metal of the printer. The "outer" slides over it.

I have used two models of other users to design this new model. While these models have another purpose; i still added them as remix source files to give them some credits as well.

Print Settings

  • Printer brand:

    Creality

  • Printer:

    Ender-3 v2

  • Rafts:
    No
  • Supports:
    No
  • Notes:

I used CURA; but even if you rotate the object 45 degrees (see image) it will not fit (by default) on an ender 3 v2.
You should make sure that you set "Build plate Adhesion Type" to "None"; but even then it still won't fit.

That is because CURA protects you from printing over the bed mounting clips (metal clips that holds the glass bed in place). I have replace the bed with a magnetic one; so i do not have the clips anymore. But even if you have them, you will only print in the corners; and the clips will be in the center.

You can remove the default protection area by navigating inside Cura to Help->Show Configuration Folder. This will open file explorer. Open the "definition_changes" folder and adjust your printer .cfg file (mine was called "Creality+Ender-3+V2_settings.inst.cfg").
You need to add the following at the end of the file:
    machine_disallowed_areas = []

Restart Cura and you should now be able to make use of the full size of your print bed.

Post-Printing

Before mounting, the cap at the back right must be removed from your printer; and the power connector must be unscrewed.
The "inner" can be pushed into place and should slide at the rear right into the frame.
The "outer" can then be slide over the "inner" and will also slide into the rear right frame.
The connector can then be screwed back in place and will secure the "outer" at the left side of the printer.
