Summary

There's definitely a shortage of free stand options out there for this device. If you find any cool ones, let me know in the comments.

I made a remix of the original design to lengthen the spikes by almost an inch, so the angle of the SP-404MKII would be higher. I also put a 20 degree angle on the base so it sits more flush with the table. You don't need to add any rubber feet to it, but you can if you want.

Additionally, I removed some of the center material to speed up the print and save some filament. I think the slits in it look cooler than the text. This item is also more safety conscious because it won't stand on its own, unless it's inserted into the sampler.

I used PETG, but I'm sure it will print just fine and be strong enough with PLA. You can save time by printing it low resolution. I used 0.30mm and 30% infill. Definitely add supports because the ends of the spikes don't touch the print bed, but the center section with the slits doesn't need support to print correctly.

Please understand that I am not a 3D designer. I tweaked this using TinkerCAD website. So I'm sure it can be optimized even further. Enjoy!

  • Notes:

I print it laying down so that the spikes that fit in the holes of the device, are stronger. They will snap easily if printed standing up. Since the ends of the spike don't touch the print bed when laying down, I used "Supports on bed only" in my slicer settings. If your slicer tries to add supports to the crossbeam, put a support blocker there to avoid using the extra filament. This will easily bridge the small gaps even if your printer isn't super tuned.

Post-Printing

May need some sanding to remove support materials

I used some sandpaper to smooth it a bit after removing the support materials with a blade.
