Summary

This is a ring clamp that attached a laser pointer to a Meade 8x50 finderscope.

By editing the SCAD file you can change the diameter of the finderscope or the laser pointer.

The screw hole is sized to self tap with M3 screws, I recommend drilling out one side with a 1/8" drill so the screw will pass easily, and then self tapping the screw into the plastic on the other side so you don't even need a nut/washer.

I you use two rings of the same size, I found that the laser dot would be visible within the finderscope, so pointing the laser at something in the sky would guarantee that it appeared in the view of the finderscope,and then you could just do fine adjustments when looking into the finderscope to center the object at the crosshairs.

The separation distance between the two rings is configurable, and I've included several different sizes pre-rendered in the different STL files. For my specific laser pointer and finderscope, I found that a 1.5mm difference (9mm on the front, 10.5 on the back) was perfect to get the laser dot almost exactly on the crosshairs.

[Left/right adjustment is done by rotating the front/back ring before tightening it down. Up/Down adjustment can only be done by printing rings with different separation distances.

This laser is very bright, and easily throws a visible beam up into the sky at night, plus it charges via USB on the end, so you never have to remove it from the clamps to change a battery.
