Summary

VGA A/V panel for the TI99/4A

This is a VGA A/V panel for F18A-modded TI99 computers. The new VGA A/V panel piece is secured in place using internal shell supports. No glue is necessary. A piece is provided to allow for test fitting without having to cut the shell. After the test fit, when you are ready, the shell must be cut. A 60x17mm rectangular panel piece is provided to allow you to mark your shell for cutting.

You can use the original VGA port that came with the F18A kit. A clamp as been included that secures the VGA port in place.

REQUIRED SHELL CHANGES

1) You must cut a 60x17mm (maybe 60x18) rectangular hole in the TI99 shell for the A/V panel. It's basically a horizontal line at the top and bottom edges of the existing circle cutout, and from the edge to the internal vertical support. You should be safe to cut to the underside of the line under the vent slots. I recommend using a dremel to make the cut and then a file to fine tune it. Don't use snips. The shell is brittle and will likely crack. Don't try to go for an exact cutout with the dremel either. Cut it close with a dremel then file it to get it exact.

This A/V panel was originally designed for a beige shell. I believe the black shells are compatible, but they have not been fully tested. There are two styles of black shells, the older design is marked by a "Solid State Software" badge on the cartridge slot. The newer design is similar to the beige shell design (except for the aluminum pieces and the power switch). It is most easily identifable by the abcence of the "Solid State Software" badge on the cartridge slot. I modified the piece so that I could test fit it in my black shell (newer style) without cutting the shell.

REQUIRED TI MOTHERBOARD CHANGES

1) You must remove the original AV port and solder the audio wires to the TI motherboard. I recommend tying both left and right audio together so you will have mono sound from both speakers. You can use a 1/8" stereo audio port and connect (amplified) PC speakers.

2) You must remove the RF shield from the topside of the TI motherboard. There is a piece provided to act as a spacer for the screw that fits next to the joystick port, so that you can use the original screw and nut.

REQUIRED PARTS

You don't have to get the exact parts I linked here, but you will need something very similar.

1) Screws with nuts (2): M2x20 (20mm length, approx 3mm head, 1.5mm shaft)

2) Audio port: 3.5mm (1/8") stereo audio jack, panel mount https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255801050853986.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.25.6cb12515Re3Mx8&algo_pvid=9cb90416-116d-4663-a179-e6bf7f51254a&algo_exp_id=9cb90416-116d-4663-a179-e6bf7f51254a-12&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21USD%213.99%213.79%21%21%213.99%213.79%21%402103242517107801260141822ea9e8%2110000015408747577%21sea%21US%214075697400%21&curPageLogUid=2KC332AgxYbF&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A

INCLUDED PIECES

1) TI99 AV panel_main.stl
The main piece that will fit in your console.

2) TI99 AV panel_test fit (without cutting).stl
Same as the main piece, except it can be used to test fit the part without having to cut the shell.

3) TI99 AV panel_cutting template.stl
This is the panel only. It can be used to mark the shell for cutting.

4) TI99 AV panel_VGA clamp (btm).stl
5) TI99 AV panel_VGA clamp (top).stl
These two pieces clamp together to hold the VGA cable in place. The holes in these pieces line up with the holes in the main piece, through which the M2x20 machine screws fit. You may have to drill these holes out a little.

6) TI99 AV panel_PCB support.stl
This piece is for securing the VGA PCB included with the MK1-version. This piece has not been tested yet. If you use this piece, please tell me if it fits properly or if the fit can be improved.

7) TI99 post (offset RF shield removal).stl
This post helps when attaching the bottom shield to the TI motherboard after removing the top shield. The screw next to the joystick port needs this post.

SLICER INSTRUCTIONS

Turn the print face down on the print bed so that the outward pointing face looks best.

Set your print to go high resolution. Doesn't have to be the highest, but I would advise a higher than usual setting. For mine, I used 0.15mm.

For supports, select "Supports on build plate only", then manually paint supports for the two cylinder support shafts. There is a flat edge inside each shaft. Use the "smart fill" paint brush and click that flat edge for a perfect fill just on the edge of the cylinder. There should be a pic included illustrating the support fills.
