I wanted to reprint some accessories I had on an old Creality Ender 3 and the Pi Camera Mount was one of them. The original is a fantastic mount that clips onto the side of the Z Axis stepper-motor and holds an enclosure for the Pi Camera so that it can view the printing plate and print as it rises.
From ModMike's Creality Ender 3 Pi Cam Mount existing design, I liked the mount but had trouble with the enclosure's tight tolerances when it came to sliding the two parts together. So I created my own design that uses a snap-fit to join together the two halves of the print, a technique that has worked well for my other printable design, the Pi Zero 2 and ZeroCam Case. The tolerances are a lot more relaxed around the Pi Cam but the front and back enclosure still fit together tightly. The mounting arm also extends from the front case, which the Pi is fitted in and also allows for easy printing laid flat and no need for any supports.
Custom Section
Compatibility:
This enclosure designed specifically using dimensions from the older original Pi Cam v1.3 - It hasn't been tested with any other camera models, but may work.
The enclosure has been designed to attach to ModMike's Creality Ender 3 Pi Cam Mount available on Thingiverse. To mount it, you will need an M3 15mm bolt and nut
Features
- Houses Raspberry Pi Camera Module 1 (not tested with others)
- Snap-fit case in two parts using holes in PCB for alignment and secure the camera module in place.
- Attaches to ModMike's Creality Ender 3 Pi Cam Mount available on Thingiverse.
- Finger grips on left and right sides as well as grips underneath the front and back parts to assist if prying apart.
- High resolution STL mesh
- Correctly orientated to the print bed, ready for the slicer
- No supports are needed!
If anyone finds any problems (dimensionally or otherwise) post them up so I can get the fix model.
Instructions
- Print the Front and the Back enclosure halves.
- Optional: Use a 5mm brim if your prints tend to lift at the corners, to fit the Camera PCB properly, it needs to be flat.
- For the bracket, that attaches to the printer, please download at ModMike's Creality Ender 3 Pi Cam Mount available on Thingiverse.
Assembly
- Place the Pi Camera module, with cable ribbon attached, in the case front half.
- Align PCB holes with the printed standoffs, a little wiggle room has been incorporated, but make sure it lays flat and straight.
- Check the front of the front piece to make sure the camera lens protrudes out and the sensor box is aligned with the square cut-out.
- Place the back half over the front, and carefully align the back edge lip so it sits just inside the front half and gently press evenly around the edges (it is a tight fit but don't use too much force or you may damage the camera). Be careful to make sure everything is aligned ok, otherwise the two halves will have an odd gap along the side and the camera may not be seated okay.
- Press the two halves together until they snap-fit together
Credits
- Raspberry Pi Camera Rev 1.3 by Robin Okurka available on GrabCAD, was used in the mockup render.
- Creality Ender 3 Pi Cam Mount by ModMike available on Thingiverse, was used in the mockup render.

This model has been designed for a specific use-case, it has not yet undergone extensive testing so use it at your own risk. Constructive feedback is appreciated.
