HO scale model of a small house on Lerew Street in Vonda, Saskatchewan. The house was originally built in the 1930s as a two-room farmhouse. It was moved into town in the 1950s and had two additions tacked on to add two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a mudroom.
Parts are designed for easy painting before assembly or to be printed in different colors. My goal here was to get fine plank detail in the walls, so the parts are printed flat and then assembled like a traditional model kit.
Interior parts are optional and are not needed to assemble the exterior. The roof prints as a single piece and is intended to be finished with a shingle pattern printed on paper and applied to the roof surface.
Print the wall, trim, window, and door parts print with 0.1 mm layers and a 0.2 mm extruder. Print the roof and floor with 0.2 mm and 0.4 mm extruder for faster printing.
The thin walls may warp when getting them off the build plate or while gluing on the trim -- it seems like CA glue shrinks as it sets. To flatten warped parts, heat up the build plate to 60° C, put the part on the plate, and put a flat weight on the part. Let the part and weight heat up for a few minutes and then turn off the build plate and let it cool. I needed to use this technique on the longer walls as they warped after the trim was applied. I also needed to use this technique on the floor, as it was badly warped after printing. The proper fix is to figure out my bed temperatures for printing, but it's good to have this flattening technique available.
The interior walls will require trimming and sanding to fit. Fir the interior walls after assembling the exterior shell. The back interior wall is very delicate with that very thin bit at the top of the door -- the real building has a similar tight corner! -- but the part does print and will hold together.
I'm listing this as a "work in progress" as I am considering adding interior window frames and improving the roof and floor.
