台湾猕猴的丙申年

In Chinese Zodiac, the year of the Monkey is in Feb. 8, 2016-Jan. 27, 2017. I designed 台湾猕猴的丙申年 to celebrate the coming of a new year, and I hope to use this opportunity to draw attention for Formosan macaques in Taiwan.

台湾寿山猕猴（Macaca cyclopis）已在寿山栖息多年。近年来，游客或当地居民参与喂养猕猴的行为引发了争议。这些猕猴的觅食行为正在发生变化，越来越依赖施舍。此外，猴与人之间的激烈冲突也时有发生。有些猕猴抢夺游客的食物，有些甚至闯入当地居民家中。面对这些威胁，游客或村庄周围的当地居民开始攻击猕猴。一些猕猴被发现中毒或遭到人类攻击，身上出现了伤痕。村庄周围的冲突针对猕猴这一物种及其受保护的地位十分激烈。科学家报告称，有 200 只猕猴失踪。这是台湾猕猴最恶劣的生存环境。科学家们开始研究减少冲突的保护措施，他们试图为猕猴提供受干扰较少的栖息地。他们建议，解决冲突的最佳方法是停止喂食、干扰和接触猕猴，这样猕猴就可以不再依赖人类，并开始回到自己的栖息地。

As I designed 台湾猕猴的丙申年, I tried to left an imprint of time on their body. Thus, the foot of 台湾猕猴的丙申年 are imprinted with Chinese words of Bing-shen.

Chinese sexagenary cycle is a means of recording days or years. Most of people believe that the year of the Monkey will be back in the period of 12 years. In fact, the same year of the Monkey will be back in a circulation of 60 years, that is, it takes 60 years to wait for the next the year of Bing-shen of the Monkey. I designed 24 of nodes on macaques’ body, and each of nodes are rotatable and adjustable, which permits the macaques to show variable dynamics and expressions. Each of rotatable nodes are representing traditional Chinese agricultural 24 solar terms, each small segment is a year's different weather change, every solar term is like a year's different facial expression. When 24 solar terms cycle completed, a new year will come again. I hope with this design to remind myself that time is precious, and I hope that I can make better use of time.

1. If the printer print quality is not good, it may cause the integral tail unable to successfully bend, at this time can choose a separate tail model for printing.
2. When scaling down the printing, please do not be smaller than 0.86, and increase the printing resolution to 0.15mm.
