Summary

A print-in-place puzzle box with a mysterious hexagon glyphs!

https://youtu.be/MZP2tb3nzbc

Customization

The project comes in a multi-color and single-color variants. Both versions work the same way, the multicolor option just makes it easier to read the symbols included on the model.

Printing

  • This print requires a well-tuned printer that can reliably print 0.4mm tolerances between moving parts.
  • This is a long print, but do not rush it. Print at speeds you know will produce mechanically reliable parts.
  • Recommended print settings: 0.2mm layer height, 2-3 perimeter walls, average infill.
  • Do not print with supports.
  • Do not add a brim.
  • Do not attempt to scale the print unless you've already successfully printed it at normal scale.
  • Monitor the first few layers very closely for curling or other print issues.
  • If printing the single-color version, a light color filament is recommended to make reading the symbols on the design easier.
  • If printing the multi-color version, select highly contrasting colors for all symbols and parts labeled "raised".

Verify a Successful Print

There is always a risk that mechanical print-in-place designs will fail to print properly. In this case, a failed print could result in a puzzle that is impossible to solve.

If the following checks pass, you should have a functioning puzzle.

  • All six dials rotate freely. If they don't, you may be able to use force to free them up.
  • Is the central core of the puzzle (the area enclosed by all six dials) free to wiggle and raise slightly?
