Summary

I wanted to add a charcoal+HEPA air filter to my Flashforge Adventurer 3, but the Flashforge Adventurer 3 filter on Amazon seemed expensive at about £19.00 each. So I wanted one that I could print out, but could not find any. The 3D printable models that were available used filters that I could not find in the UK.

So I decided to use the filter for the Adventurer 4, which can be bought from Flashforge for delivery in the UK:

I decided to re-mix the 3D printable model from Kakeru Nekobeya : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4763031/comments.

This had a cut-out to allow for the fan, a cut-out for the ledge at the back (where the top meets the back) and an air space above the filter to allow air to be drawn across the whole filter. Unfortunately, the filter it used was 11.5cm square and did not seem available in the UK,

So, I have reduced the size to take the 8.00 cm square Adventurer 4 filters and added four, 6x2 mm Neodymium magnets to secure the filter case to the top of the printer cabinet. The actual filter then pushes in and simply holds itself in place.

The magnets were glued in with Gorilla Epoxy glue and left to set overnight before use.

I was printing PLA on a Anycubic Kobra 2 Max and had some issues with added support being difficult to get out of the holes for the magnets, but I found the following settings in Cura helped:

Support pattern: Zig Zag
Support Density 5%
Support Line distance 8
initial Layer Support Line distance 8
Support Z distance 1mm
Support top distance 1mm
Support x/y distance 1.5 mm
Support Z distance 1.0

Since I made this, I have also found the Muliap SY901 Air Purifier Replacement Filters , which are 3.5” (9.89cm) square and cost £12.29.

If anyone wanted to, it should be possible to remix the model to take these too. Although it is more expensive, you do not have to buy 5 at a time.
