Summary

This is a custom plate to mount the Creality E-Fit extruder (with pancake / 40-34 / 42-40-motor) to the stock x-gantry-plate. It is compatible with the MBOT3D MK2 hotend cover(s) for the Ender 3 (found in the "remixed from" section). The cover that houses the hotend fan no longer fits with this plate and has to be replaced by the edited version (provided here in a few days).
The part titled "Cable Chain Mount" adds a connector for a cable chain (such as these https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5932687) to the part, allowing for a saver mount of the cables for the hotend and fans.

Required Parts

  • 1x Creality E-Fit extruder
  • 1x Mountingplate
  • 1x Edited Cover
  • 2x M5 Nut
  • 2x M5 Endstop Nut
  • 3x M3x8 Bolt
  • 1x M3x15 Bolt
  • 3x M3 Washer

For the complete hotendcover (hotend fan + part cooling fans) the corresponding fan mounting plate is needed. To download STL visit:

Assembly (x-carriage)

  1. Disassemble your hotend until you are left with just the mounting plate (still connected to the timing belt) and the lower v-roller. If you use linear rails the bolts of for the v-rollers will stick out, they can be replaced with shorter ones or cut to the right length.

  2. Place the extruder plate on the x-axis plate (the cable chain connector needs to face left) and secure with the bolts for the v-roller, for this step use two M5 nuts (not end stop ones). The wheels can now be put back in place and secured with the M5 endstop nuts.

  3. Reattach the hotend, fan mounting plate and the fans. All wires need to go through the hole on the left side that leads to the cable chain connector. For this step it is recommended to remove the hotend and fans entirely, lay the wires through the cable chain and then plug the parts back in. The PTFE tube from the hotend to the extruder needs to be around 5,5cm long (without bi-metal-heatbreak) and needs to be pushed entirely into the extruder plate.

  4. Open the door on the right side of the extruder and push the round connector on the Extruder plate into the hole in the extruder. Now close the door and screw the nob back in. Now secure the extruder with the M3 bolts and washers (holes are on the backside of the extruder plate). The wire for the extruder motor can be plugged in now. If you use the E-Fit extension cable and a 42-34 or 42-40 motor the wires going into the wire connector need to be fliped, otherwise the motor will not turn.

  5. Bolt the edited cover (with 4010 fan already in place) onto the hotend assembly with a M3x15 bolt. It needs to go through the hole on the back of the place between the v-roller.

Assembly (cable chain)

Once the extruder, hotend and fans are mounted the cable chain can be attached. Only the section on the x axis needs a change for this design. All elements of the chain should face left (towards the x-motor) with their open side, except for the last element between the extruder mount and the chain, which has to face right with its open side. Please pay attention to orientate the parts correctly, as the printer would not be able to home properly and it is not unlikely that parts and cables would be broken.
