Summary

I wanted an LS-120 for my new PC build to write out floppy images for my retro stuff. Prices were silly for an internal ATAPI unit, so I just bought an external Macintosh model and stripped it down to the bare mechanicals.

Of course, it needed a new bezel, so here it is. Included is a bezel model and a light pipe model for the indicator LED. The light pipe, of course, should be printed in a filament that transmits light. I used clear PLA. If you print the whole thing in clear filament, you might not even need the light pipe.

The mechanism for my drive is a Panasonic model no. LKM-F433-1. The complete unit with enclosure is model no. SD-USB-M2.

This bezel -should- work with either the native internal mechanism, or one liberated from the external enclosure. Some models may work, but imperfectly, as there are more than one button shape. This is made for the LS-120 with a pill-shaped eject button.

Print settings are pretty basic. By necessity, the bits that hold the bezel to the mechanism aren't terribly robust, so you might want to print thinnish layers for better layer adhesion. Also, if you slice with Cura, you may want to set 'Slicing Tolerance' to 'exclusive'. This may help with any fitment issues, assuming the option is available in the Cura version you're using. I printed mine with the outer face pointed up, away from the bed, with ironing turned on to help the finish.

Edit: After some serious messing around with this, I decided to start over completely and design a new bezel that fixed many issues that I found found with the original. This new bezel is designed to more closely mimic the look and function of a standard non-Superdisk floppy bezel. Floppy insertion is easier and quite reliable now. Additionally, the fitment is much more more snug and secure. I'm leaving the original v1 model available, just in case you're curious about what changed.
