Summary

This is a 1/76 (OO) scale model of an LNER G5 locomotive. It fits on to the chassis of a Hornby 0-4-4 Class M7 Southern locomotive. (R.754) which are available on ebay.

Post-Printing

Assembly, smoothing, painting

I cover the body and cab roof with filler designed for wood or plastic (pic 1). When it is hard (the next day) I sand it down using files and sandpaper glued to wooden spatulas, ice lolly sticks or coffee stirrers. (pic 2)
Spray everything with black acrylic. Apply HMRC transfers and paint with matt acrylic varnish. Insert cut-off pins into the three holes on top of the body and paint brass colour to represent whistles etc.
Screw chassis fixer to Hornby chassis (near rear). Fit baseplate under lugs at front of Hornby chassis and glue horizontal to chassis fixer. Glue body to baseplate. Glue painted driver and fireman to cab floor. Glue on roof - you will probably need to apply filler to the join, then sand down and paint.
Make pipes and handrails from bits of hair grips (kirby grips) and straight thin wire (e.g. burnt out sparklers). Paint and glue to body (touch up with matt varnish)
Weather with scraped pastels. To make buffers, use office punch to cut circles in thin card, paint dirty metal colour and glue in place on buffer bars.
