The new design removes the front hinge, which is the most likely part to first crack after repeated use. It was replaced with a permanent bump, which proved to be substantially sturdier, although the thickness of the overall design when unfolded is tripled.
Also, the hex holes on the back plate were removed to improve durability of the design and reduce the bending of the plate while a phone or tablet is being placed on top.
