Summary

This is an enclosure for the SquishBox, an add-on for Raspberry Pi computers developed by Geek Funk Labs that provides a character LCD display, buttons, sound output, and power input, in a compact package about the size of an effects pedal. The box is sturdy enough to be operated on the floor with shoes on, but works just as well on tabletop.

No mounting hardware is required - there are clips that hold the LCD, which keeps all the electronics in place. It can be helpful to use a screwdriver as a lever to bend the walls outward (PLA is tough - it can take it!) as you press the LCD in place. If you happen to mash the LCD clips a bit getting it in place don't worry - they should remain pretty sold as long as you don't try to remove and re-insert the LCD a bunch of times. A little hot glue squirted through the LCD into the mounting holes will keep things extra secure, but IMO it's not necessary. Very short #4 screws could in theory secure the LCD, but the LCD supports have to be narrow to allow the LCD to fit, and screwing tends to rip them loose.

The lid will snap on stay in place fairly well due to the grip provided by the print layering ridges, but screws will make for a tighter, more secure fit. I use #4 x 3/8" sheet metal screws, which fit nicely into the counter-sunk holes in the lid. I've removed and re-tightened screws on these boxes dozens of times without stripping or breakage of the print. The support posts on the lid hold a Pi 3A/3B/4 or Pi Zero in place securely so that devices and be plugged into ports without strain on the electronics. Make sure to print the lid with the narrower support footprint for the Pi Zero. There is a small notch on the left side so the Pi's status LEDs are visible, and a couple larger rounded notches for threading extra cables for e.g. USB extenders, HDMI, or a 5V power supply (if the DC jack isn't used).

No rafts or supports are needed! A .step file is included so you can remix it if you want to use different buttons, etc.
