Summary

I designed this ceiling mounted swivel pulley system to be able to run a data cord from a PC, along the ceiling and drop down to a VR headset. The system is able to mount to the ceiling with a drywall screw or drywall anchor and screw. The pulley is simple and spins around a pin. And I designed the swivel to act as a bearing using twelve 6 mm airsoft BBs.

I've tried to split the parts to make assembly as easy as possible, with alignment keys between pieces to keep them aligned. Two pieces require printing duplicates; the latch and the latch pin. Some pieces will require an adhesive such as the swivel pieces (please follow the instructions for which pieces to adhere together). You'll also need to use 6 mm airsoft BBs (as mentioned before) to facilitate the swivel to act as a bearing as well as mounting equipment to mount the system to your ceiling.

All parts were tested for tolerance using 0.4mm nozzle, printed at 0.3mm layer height.
Supports shouldn't be needed with the exception of the 'Base Bottom.stl' and 'Cord guider base.stl'.

Post-Printing

Assembly Instructions - Step 1

Print all pieces as well as a duplicate of the latch and latch pin.

Step 2

Insert the Base Top center pin up through the bottom of the Cord Guider Base.

Step 3

Next, place the 6 mm BBs between the Base Top center pin and inner walls of the Cord Guider Base

Step 4

On Base Bottom, add adhesive to inset where alignment pins are found. Don't add too much adhesive, you don't want adhesive to squeeze out and cause problems with the BBs rolling smoothly.

Align the Base Bottom alignment pins and Base Top alignment holes and and adhere the two pieces together. Now you should have a base piece that swivels. I'll refer to it as the Swivel Base in step 7.

Step 5

Attach Latches with Latch Pins by aligning the Latch holes with the holes of the latch hinge on the Cord Guider Base and inserting the Latch Pin. Repeat this step for both sides.

Note: After inserting the Latch Pins I ended up using a drop of adhesive on the ends of the pins to prevent them from accidentally falling out.

Step 6

Assemble the Pulley Wheel by aligning the pins and holes of the two pieces and adhering both sides together.

Step 7

Mount the swivel base to the ceiling by inserting a screw up through the Swivel Base assembly, either using a screw into a stud in the ceiling or by using a drywall anchor.

This system can work with multiple swivel pulleys arranged on the ceiling to keep the cord off the floor and away from moving body parts, but to get the true benefit of the pulley make sure to mount one directly above the VR playing area.

DO NOT drive a screw directly into drywall, as the drywall won't be able to withstand the repeated pull of the cord and you'll end up with an ugly hole in your dry wall when the screw finally rips itself out. Just to reiterate, make sure to drive the screw into a stud or at least use a drywall anchor.

Step 8

Now take the Cord Guider Main piece and slide your VR cord into the slot.

Then take the assembled Pulley Wheel and align the holes with the holes of the Cord Guider Main piece and insert the Pulley Axle through the hole.

I don't recommend applying adhesive to the ends of the Pulley Axle, as you'll want to be able to push the pin out if you ever want to remove the cord from the swivel pulley.

Step 9

Now that the pulley section is assembled, you can attach the pulley to the swivel base.

Flip the pulley section over so the flat side is facing up. Bring it up to the swivel base and align the holes of the pulley to the pins on the base and pull the latches flat to the side of the pulley section.

Warning!! DO NOT adhere the pulley section to the swivel base! If you adhere them together you will no longer be able to access the screw to remove it from your ceiling if you ever need to.
The latches should hold the two pieces together and allow the two sections to be separated if you need to.
