Summary

BIQU Terminator Hot End Mount

This is a mount solution to put the biqu terminator extruder on a folgertech ft5 r2 (may work on original?). This setup also works for an EBB36 CAN bus board from BIQU which I used but I suppose you could ignore that mount and proceed as you wish. There are also 2 brackets to adjust the offset of the x gantry belts so that this carriage connects nicely. This is a work in progress technically but it is a currently functional work in progress. This carriage may work on other machines that have an x gantry like this, the folgertech isn't anything special in this regard. As noted in the print settings, I finished this project by printing the carriage with nylon for high-temperature resistance. The motor mount and idler plates were just printed in PLA and seem to work great. This mod also reduces the X by about 20mm and the Y less than 10. I may re-work the design to improve this but my original goal was just to get it all working.

Some story

I originally thought this extruder would mount on the x-gantry with no problem and I would just need a small part to attach belts somehow. The nozzle was way too high and it was not going to happen. So I set off creating a design that used two linear rails, I don't know really, The original BIQU docs show it on two so I thought it was a good idea. For what it is worth, the carriage is butter smooth and super stable, I look forward to pushing speeds to the limit with Klipper.

In the process of doing this upgrade, I disassembled all the linear rails and cleaned them in isopropyl, re-oiled them and re-assembled them. I also installed a Manta M5p for a clean CAN bus-ready setup that required no external devices. Here is a link to the adapter I made so the m5p board mounts in the original board's place.

Parts (incomplete)

I will polish this up if anyone is really interested, it's not hard to assemble, just comment..

Required:
MGN12 Linear rail x1
M3 heated inserts x 5
Countersunk M3 20mm x 2 (or 4 25mm?)
Countersunk M3 25mm x 2
Countersunk M3 8mm x 2
M3 nuts x 4
M3 12mm x 6 (There are holes for 8, for some reason 8 in the linear rails adds friction)

Optional:
5M GT2 Belts and toothed idlers instead of smooth like stock.

Print Settings

  • Printer brand:

    Creality

  • Printer:

    Ender 3

  • Rafts:
    No
  • Supports:
    No
  • Resolution:
    .2
  • Infill:
    20
  • Filament brand:

    Overture

  • Filament color:

    Black

  • Filament material:

    Easy Nylon

  • Notes:

    Hotend: 270C
    Bed: 40C
    Speed: <70mm/s
    Cooling: 40%-100%
Enclosure: yes (it's smelly and not good for you)

This could also probably work with ABS but Overture has some astonishing claims about their easy nylon temperature resistance (180 degrees C 0_0) so I took the bait and tried it. It was surprisingly easy to work with once I got it dialed in.
