Summary

This is an adapter for a BMW single festoon interior light that uses a 26mmx36mm LED panel as a replacement for the incandescent globe.

In this case the light was for the hatch door in a 318Ti, but the light is likely used in other places in the E46 Series 3, and similar models.

The 12V LED panels are widely available on ALI , EBay etc. They often come with adapters although this design connects directly to the existing plug. The plug connects to a 3-pin 0.1" 'Dupont' connector, if the pins are moved to the outer two positions. This is much more effective than using the festoon tabs.

The metal plate in the existing fitting is removed by gently bending out the tabs and sliding it off. The printed part then clips over the plastic mount, sandwiching the LED panel into place, and the mount is clipped into the body cutout. The improvement in lighting of the hatch area with the lid opened is substantial.
