Summary

My thanks to the original designer and the remix I based my files on. They created a functional insert with some clever features.

Unfortunately. somewhere along the way the Codenames game box has been reduced in height so that the old version of this organizer is no longer useful for the current production version.

As of January of 2024, the game box is now only about 1.5 inches deep on the inside which means the cards and tiles cannot be stored upright. I had to move a few things around to get a slanted storage solution in place, but this now fits inside the box with the lid closed and holds everything in place even if you shake the box around and turn it upside-down. Store the instructions in the bottom of the box, place the organizer on top of that, and load it up as pictured. The red tiles and blue tiles each take one side while the neutral tiles, the assassin, and the double agent tile all get stored in the middle slot.

Since I moved the game timer storage location to the front of the tray the map cards now get held down by simply storing the old map card holder on top of the stack of map cards. Everything else fits so close to the lid already that nothing else needs any special consideration. Even if you threw away the old map holder, your map cards won't have much distance to roam in the box anymore. I just like to keep mine tidy so that's where the old map holder lives now.

There is a 1-piece version and a 2-piece version for smaller printers like my Ender 3. I intended to work out some good screw hole dimensions and make sure there was enough depth for a screw head in the bottom of the frame but my test print and the second copy I printed for someone else both slotted together so tightly without any screws or glue that I didn't bother refining the design of that part. You can probably just friction fit yours like I did mine. If yours needs a little help staying assembled, you can try a screw in there or just glue it or melt some filament into the hole if you have a 3d pen or something like that. You probably won't need to worry about it though.

Supports are really not needed at all on the 1-piece model, but my Ender 3 wasn't big enough to print in one piece (even with the part turned 45 degrees) so I had to make a 2-piece option. On the 2-piece option you only need supports for the assembly tab/slot areas. Everything else has a gentle enough angle that you can and should skip supports.
