Summary

This is a test-strip maker for use in a photography darkroom. It is loosely based on the traditional Paterson design.

There are others that are more complicated and perhaps have extra functionality but I just wanted something fast, that would print fast, with no supports, no monkey business just a fast print that I could get to using quickly.

The aim was a fundamental, basic functionality, and a design with a specific focus on being fast and easy to print. I've used it and it works great!

You will need to print the 'main bit' once and then 8 of the "paddles".

To use -

Size and focus your print,

Put the paper in the easel, or on the baseboard

Put the 'loaded' test strip maker (ie, the with all the paddles in it except one, leaving one slot empty) ON TOP of the paper / easel. You may find it advantageous to hold it in place a little with one hand through the process - This thing has no bells and whistles, folks.

Expose for 2 seconds

Remove one paddle

Expose again

Remove another paddle

Repeat until all paddles are gone

Develop / stop / fix as normal

This print will now show you exposures from 2 seconds up to 18 seconds. Look at them and decide what exposure you think looks best then make a new print using that exposure time.

If you do one second instead of 2 seconds, obviously it'll show you 1 up to 9 seconds. Vary exposure time as needed to get a test strip that shows you an exposure you like.
