Summary

There's a total solar eclipse in April 2024 and lots of astronomers are headed to the USA to observe. I wanted to take photos but my usual telescope is too heavy to carry all that way. I decided to take my Sony camera and one of my Sony Emount lenses. Not ideal but hey, hopefully the sun its going to be visible.

The adapter is a simple cylinder that is designed to fit inside the solar filter and around the lens hood of the sony 70-300mm lens - see photos.

The adapter is a snug fit on the lens hood. The adapter has three countersunk holes that allow an M3 thread insert to be melted into it. It uses nylon M3 screws to attach the adapter to the lens hood.

WARNING: These screws are only tightened a little to ensure that the solar filter does not fall off the lens hood. Please note that it would be easy to have the adapter slip off if its facing toward the ground, but given your taking pictures of the sun this should not be a problem.

Print time was about 2.5 hrs on my P1S.
