Summary

These are some print designs I created to work with a portable HDD case w/SATA cable to USB adapter built in. It's Playstation themed because my HDD will be reformatted and used as external memory for a PS4. THE CASE IS NOT MY DESIGN. Credit goes to SolarGermany. The case, printed with PETG, works nearly perfectly, leaving me with only having to file down a couple edges of the SATA cable (could just be a difference in the brand). The lid wouldn't stay on so the pieces I designed were necessary (for me) to lock the lid in place. The corner pieces use the case's mounting holes to lock in. You won't be able to mount this case if you use these additions. These parts designed as reinforcement and are solely for aiding portability.

The lid was modified, removing the voids on the bottom and adding wedges to the top (to lock the sleeve in place). The voids were removed to minimize the need for supports. Since the wedges are on the lid, it's best to print it face-up, and with the voids filled in, the only supports needed are for the overhanging lip around the perimiter. Use tree supports for the lip. For the picture, I included a personalized lid, with initials and "HDD" inset in it - to give some ideas for your own customization. The lid STL I uploaded is without this personalization, leaving you a "blank slate: for your own design additions!

I printed the corner wedges (PLA) on their sides, to minimize print time. As you can see in the pictures, I didn't get the best results, but they work perfectly! They fit very tightly and some care should be used when installing them. They use the case's mounting holes for locking on. IF you ever need to remove them, gently slip a flat head screwdriver under their edge on the face, using a very slight twisting motion to work it in. Don't use a lot of pressure or you'll scratch/gouge the lid face. once you get the screwdriver wedged between the brace and the case lid's face, slide it in as far as you can, being careful not to dig into the locking pegs, then grasp the brace at top and bottom. Wiggling in various directions, carefully pull the entire brace off the case. Doing this too often may result in damaging either the mounting holes in the case or the locking pegs enough to eventually warrant printing replacements. Consider them semi-permanent so don't install the braces until you're completely satisfied with the assembly (make them your last step).

I printed the sleeve (PLA) logo-up. This is not the strongest orientation. For maximum strength, it should be printed with the hole vertical. I printed it logo-up because I wanted the logo to be a different color but don't have an AMS. The unfortunately low print quality I got in my "prototype" print, as you can see in the pictures, resulted in already having to super glue a split that occurred. It only split when removing it from the case though (I only removed it in order to get pictures for this post. You're welcome lol). The sleeve must be installed before the corner braces. Making sure it's oriented with the top toward the SATA cable, simply slide it over the case (with the lid already on) and over one of the wedges so it's between both wedges. To remove the sleeve, insert a flat head screwdriver between the lid and the sleeve just enough to slide the sleeve over the wedge on the lid. THIS IS HOW I SPLIT MY SLEEVE!!! Only insert the screwdriver enough to allow the sleeve to clear the wedge on the lid! You likely won't have this problem if you print the sleeve with the hole vertical. The sleeve slid on just fine, no tools required.
