Remix from the beautiful Snitch from Porda.
Diff Log:
- Split into two halves
- Added magnet holders on both sides to fit 8x2mm magnets
- Enlarged wing's end for it to get stuck without glue
I guess the wing may or may not fit in the snitch depending on your print settings. I got lucky, but if you aren't, just sand and remove excess material on the wings, or enlarge progressively the snitch's hole with some kind of drill.
Same goes for the magnet's holes. I pasted them from a model where they had fitted perfectly without glue.Yet this time, I was less lucky, the margin was slightly different, given the smaller resolution.
Room for improvements:
- Adjust the magnet holders so that they're perfectly centered
- Create a second version of the wing, since the enlarged plug is shifted away from the real center of the quill, for printing purposes. This asymmetry calls for a chiral wing design rather than identical wings.

Post-Printing
Step 1: Glue 2x8mm circular magnets
Step 2: Carefully bend the wings as you like
Step 3: Only then, sand wing's end to make it fit; plug, and play
Reminder (to myself and other impulsive people that wants it asap post-printing) : Don't try to make the wing fit before you're ready for it to get stuck in the snitch.
So, make sure you bent the wings for dramatic/dynamic effects first, as you may not be able to do it later...
How I Designed This
Enlarged Quill End
To enlarge the end, I used Blender to create a "mold" of the snitch "nostrils", and then translated the mold so that it would overlap the quill's end.
At first, everything was centered. But it's not practical for 3D printing. Shifting the mold to keep everything flat helped the model stick to the printing bed.
Magnetic holders
Really, like for the quills, I could have made it in Blender using boolean combinations of basic shapes (cube minus cylinder)
But out of laziness and short time, I just used Prusa Slicer (I don't own a Prusa Printer, but this software is so amazing) to cut into dice the magnet holders of the amazing "Golden Heart" (just thingiverse it, you'll see) and merged them with the snitch. That's why the hole is not perfectly centered in the cube.
