Summary

Other than needing to set it (which can be learnt here youtube.com/watch?v=1JPg9yatgpQ), this casting aid works just like regular casting but without the risk of cuts.

Print Settings

  • Printer brand:

    Creality

  • Printer:

    Ender 5

  • Rafts:
    Doesn't Matter
  • Supports:
    Yes
  • Resolution:
    0.12mm
  • Infill:
    30%
  • Filament brand:

    -

  • Filament color:

    Black

  • Filament material:

    PLA

  • Notes:

The print should be done with supports on overhangs larger than 60* (i used CURA's defaults for this).
The body (body.stl) should be printed with the flat side down and the arm (arm.stl) horizontal with the trigger up on the print surface.
Note: This object is not ideal for 3d printing because of its shape and to make it as strong as possible, but should be do-able.

Make sure to print with as many walls as possible (I used 3), 2 or fewer might break with ease on very large weights and rods.

Post-Printing

Fitting

This print is designed to fit any rod size by softening the PLA with hot water. I find pouring hot water from a kettle on the flat side of the body while holding it with some pliers works. Then quickly I used a glue stick to mold the plastic on.

I then attached the arm/trigger with a piece of wire (preferably stainless steel) and bent
either side so it wouldn't fall off but could still pivot, you can see where the wire feeds though in the holes of each model.

Finally, just zip tie (minimum one) to the rod and enjoy.
