Summary

Not an easy print, but made it easier. Will still need a large print bed.

So far, I haven't seen anyone attempt to print the Enterprise J. Just looking at it makes it easy to see why. The spindly supports for the nacelles make this difficult. The only way one could hope to print it is to make it large enough that those spindly supports actually are wide enough to hold up the nacelles. I recently got an Anycubic Kobra Max and thought it would make a good print to try various techniques to make this work.

Firstly, sliced the J into sections that made sense to print (using Slic3r). Then, I rotated the parts in Cura to print vertically with a brim for bed adhesion. The rear section is the most risky. If that prints correctly and has enough strength to support the nacelles, the middle and front sections will be worth printing, so print the rear first. I used Cura slicer with the custom supports pluggin to help the front tips of the nacelle bond and hold steady to the bed until they connected to the body.
