Summary

This is a camera obscura / DOF adapter with a 6x8 medium-format screen. It uses a simple box-like design so that the front and back halves can be easily customized.

The back half can serve as a sun shield when viewing the screen directly without a lens. It can be fitted with a lens holder for a 38/2.8 lens from a Nikon LS-2000 or LS-30 film scanner. Then screwed onto an M42 helicoid for focusing.

The front half currently uses two Pentax Auto 110 lenses to project stereoscopic images onto the screen. The lenses do not fully fill the frame, and light fall-off on the focusing screen exaggerates the vignetting. A fresnel lens marginally improves the image, but the ridges are visible. Rudimentary flat field correction seems to work better. Different lenses may work better.

If the photo is taken with the camera held upside down, the images do not need to be rotated and may be viewed directly with the cross-eye method. Changing the extension from jpg to jps allows 3D-aware programs to recognize them.

The focusing screen can be made from old polystyrene CD cases or other materials.
