Summary

As part of my Flight Control Unit Project, I wanted to get some Korry Switches for the lit buttons. I tried several different ways of lighting and finally settled on designing my own "korry type" switches.

I used Overture Black PETG for the switch housing and CC3D Transparent for the button cap.

Enjoy.

P.S. I love a donation to help me continue building these and pay for the Filament.

Post-Printing

Finishing

I annealed my caps to improve the transparency. This is why it is important to print at 100% infil, to maintain dimensional accuracy. I annealed the caps at 70C for 4 hours and let them cool naturally. They work without, but the look better with.

Debur and Sand all the parts of the body to ensure a snug fit that still allows the inner sleeve to move freely within the outer body.

Cut the top of the LED to flatten it (I used a Dremmel). This turns a focused LED into a widespread light source.

Don't cut into the LED filament.

Install the tactile switch in the base of the outer holder and the LED into the inner slide ensuring the wires protrude sufficiently to solder connector onto them.

You may want to solder wires before the assembly to prevent melting the switch if you are new to this.

Assemble the slide inner and outer and lock them with the slide lock to prevent them from falling apart.

Attach the clear cap to the crossbar of the inner slide, ensuring clearance from the outer.

I printed a sheet of decals on vinyl sticker paper. This requires an Inkjet printer that uses pigment ink.

The paper I used was Koala Printable Vinyl Sticker Paper, with is scratch and tear resitant.

The paper can be purchased at Amazon here: https://amzn.to/3ROsEUK

I got my printer there too: https://amzn.to/3HfidEJ

I just cut them and stuck them onto the front of the cap using the existing glue back and adding some super glue.

How I Designed This

Design

I designed these on FreeCAD
Sliced on Cura
Printed with Octoprint

If you want the FreeCAD files PM me. All donations are appreciated.

I've thrown in the .STL files for the LED cutting jig and the Tact mounting tool I built and used for this project.
