Summary

I needed a fairly odd size wheel for one that was missing on a piece of machinery and couldn't find the right combination of large bearing size and small wheel diameter, so came up with this to generate wheels of nearly any size with any bearing.

The design allows for the creation of custom wheel sizes that are typically intended for use with casters. It uses a dual bearing layout and the bearing size can be selected from the list of common bearings.

Optionally you can add a number of cutouts on the wheel to save material.

2 Example wheels are provided.

Parameters:

  • BearingSize: The name of the bearings being used. Most standard bearing numbers will work
  • WheelDiameter: Overall outside diameter
  • WheelDepth: The thickness of the wheel
  • WheelRoundness: Curve for the edges of the wheel. 0 produces a roller style wheel with hard corners and higher values result in a more scooter wheel style. This value should not be larger than half the depth
  • BearingInnerTolerance: The amount the axle radius will be increase over the nominal bearing size. Value depends on printer accuracy and materal. Typical values are 0.2-0.5
  • BearingOuterTolerance: The amount the bearing housing will be increased over the nomimal bearing diameter. Typically 0.1-0.4
  • NumCutouts: The number of circular cutouts that will be spread around the wheel to decrease required material. Set to 0 for a solid wheel
  • CutoutMaxPercent: The size of the cutout holes as a percentage of the maximum available size (DEpends on the bearing size, wheel diameter and roundness). Typically values should be kept to 0.9 and below.
