Summary

Compact, all-in-one digitizer for 35mm film, made especially for the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens with a 31mm extension tube, which will work for a full frame camera. Smaller sensor sizes and other lenses will probably also work, but the needed extension tube size may differ.

For the film top and the film bottom, ironing is recommended in order to avoid scratching the film. Film top and film bottom are glued together at the vertical side section where the parts meet. No glue is allowed on any part touching the film surface.

The complete film path assembly is then attached to the mid section. Push them together with one side first while twisting a bit and they should fit together nicely. You can decide whether to use a bit of glue to attach them more firmly or rely on friction to hold them together.

Mount the lens with a suitable extension tube (31mm for the EF 40mm f/2.8 onfull frame) and attach the base part to your 52mm filter thread. Push the mid section with the film path assembly onto the base part, put your camera on a tripod, point it towards a suitable light source, insert a piece of film and determine the correct distance at which the image on the negative wil fill your view and can be properly focused. Pay attention that the horizontal alignment is accurate. Also make sure your sharpest focus is somewhere in the middle, leaving free movement in both directions.

You have two ways to lock this position. You can either use a few drops of glue to prevent unwanted movement or you can put a layer or two of painter´s tape inbetween base tube and mid section to create enough friction to hold it firmly in place. If you go for the glue option, you should choose a slow glue, which will leave you enough time to find the best possible position before letting it sit until it´s dry. Don´t use superglue, you won´t have enough time to adjust it propery. Don´t overdo it, a few drops will be enough as you only need to prevent unwanted movement.
