Summary

VW used a non-standard 4.5" rear-mounted speaker in later model Eurovans with weekender trim. If your original speakers are old and need replacement, your options are:

Find a new or used OEM replacement (very difficult)
Use a 4 inch speaker and ziptie it to the original frame.
Squeeze a 5" Harmony Audio HA5 speaker into the mount.

For option 3, you can use 4 of these clips to snap an HA5 speaker into the VW rear speaker frame. The clips press down onto the back of the frame and snap into two oval shaped holes in the speaker frame. The clips should stay-put and can be pried out with a screwdriver in the future. Use a dab of glue on each for additional assurance. See photos for more info.

Before installing the clips, you must modify the speakers to fit. Use tin snips to cut off the mounting ears. Use a vibrating cutting tool, dremel, or sharp knife to trim part of the plastic surround near the mounting ears, and then use tin snips to cut part of the speaker near where the mounting ears were. The objective is to trim enough material away that the slots in the speaker frame are fully exposed behind the speaker, so the speaker grills can snap into them. You'll also need to trim away the lower part of the plastic speaker surround that interferes with the lower part of the opening in the Eurovan panel where the speaker and frame make contact. Printing and attaching the clips is the easy part. Trimming the speaker is the hard part. Attaching a 4 inch speaker to the original speaker frame with zip-ties is easier, but this option gives you a slightly larger speaker for your effort.

Easy to print with wedge-side down and ovals-up. Don't use PLA since high vehicle temps could soften and deform it. Use PETG or ABS.
