Summary

Take your ant colony to new heights in the patriotic Freedom Tower embodying the prosperity of the free world. This skyscraper formicarium features around 11.000 square millimeters of prime vertical real estate with constant breathtaking views to the outside.

The nest measures 5,5⋅5,5⋅18,5cm with a flat base and 3mm thick acrylic windows. The entrance is 10mm wide to fit transparent vinyl tubing.

You can laser cut the acrylic sheets either from the .dxf files or the combined .ai file. All files have numbers in the end which indicates how many need to be made. The stl files are all printable without any support but I would personally use some for the very first floor since it's the widest.

If you want to humidify the nest you need to find a sponge or cotton and cut it to size. To seal the sponge away you can screw on the part called "humidity room cap". If you're feeling frisky you can buy some vanilla pods and use the leftover 14mm glass tube to hold even more water. Just remember to print the part called "holder for 14mm tube" which keeps the tube elevated and locked in place. If you want the use the 14mm tube but don't like how it sticks out of the nest you can cut it down to 68,5mm in length. This way it there will be room to screw on the cap and seal in the moisture.

In order to block off the central humidity sponge and ventilation holes in the top you should find a mesh of some kind like the steel mesh showed in the pictures. First place some glue around the rim of the hole and then place the mesh to verify that it fits. Now place the square cover on top and maybe apply some more glue on the outside to make sure it can't fall out.

There are 4 covers that block light when the ants need to be left alone. They slide into holes on the top of the building and cover both the top and bottom windows. You might need to print them a little slower and with other prints of the same height since they are a bit thin.

Note: This model is in no way to scale and only matches the real One World Trade Center in general shape. The width and height were simply chosen to fit into my cabinet.

Just use a fine enough layer height to handle 57 degree overhangs. Nozzle size should be under 0,8mm.
