Howdy, wastelander!
You will never guess what I found near the ruins of Lexington. Yes, a stash of Nuka-Cola Quantum! No, not only some Quantum bottle caps but even a few bottles. And one bottle was full and sealed. I immediately emptied the whole bottle. Side-effects? No - a small dose of Strontium-90 hasn't harmed anybody. Only my pee is now blue and glowing…
Better play it safe and print your own Nuka-Cola Quantum bottle from Fallout. I designed it from the scratch according to some photos of an original bottle. The bottle is hollow and comes with a bottle cap and label. The cap and the label can be clipped-on on the bottle. Without the cap the bottle has a height of 178mm and can hold a volume of 380ml. For the label and the bottle cap you need a multicolour system like MMS or AMS.
Attention: The bottle and the label can be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle. But for the bottle cap I strongly recommend a 0.2mm nozzle. I have a 0.4mm nozzle profile for the cap, too, but you will loose some significant details and end-up with an ugly cap. So, if you go with the 0.4mm profile for the cap, you have been warned and are on your own. I uploaded a photo that shows the difference.
Print preparation: Make sure that your print bed is clean and grease-free. You might want to use glue if you are having troubles with bed adhesion. Especially the bottle cap has some very (!) small details on the first layer in four different colours. Setting your plate to 65°C for PLA will help, too. For the print quality it is important that you use a good and calibrated filament. Know your k-factor and use the correct flow setting. And make sure that you filament is dry. I personally think that a filament dryer is a must-have.
Print settings for the bottle: The bottle is an easy print. Use a 0.4mm nozzle, set the slicer to 0.28mm layer height and activate the spiral vase mode. The outer line thickness should be 0.8mm. Now you will get a robust, but hollow bottle. I like to reduce the outer wall speed a little bit to further improve quality. Be warned - the bottle is not meant to be waterproof. You can try to use concentric pattern and ironing for all surfaces. But if you really want a leak-free bottle you need to use clear coat or expoy on the inside to seal all pores.
Print settings for the label: The label will take a long time to print. An MMS or AMS is necessary because you need four colours. Use a 0.4mm nozzle with 0.16mm layer height setting. “Arachne” must be set as wall generator. A small print tower will help to enhance the colour separation.
Print settings for the bottle cap: Again - you need a MMS or AMS for the cap. For a 0.2mm nozzle use 0.1mm layer height and change the initial layer line width, the outer wall width and the inner wall width to 0.12mm. Yes, this is smaller than the nozzle but it will work and give you all the fine details. The wall generator should be set to "Arachne". For the surface patterns I recommend using the Archimedean Chords version as it has a nice finish. If you want you can reduce the printing speed a little bit to optimze quality. For the same reason I am using a small prime tower. With a 0.4mm nozzle use 0.1mm layer height. The first layer should stay at 0.2mm height. The initial layer line width, the outer line width and the inner line width must be 0.2mm otherwise the logo will be a complete mess. The rest is the same as above: Arachne wall generator, Archimedean Chords surface patterns, slightly reduced speed and a small prime tower. Printing the bottle cap with a 0.4mm nozzle will significantly reduce the detail quality on the first layer.
For more detailed print settings take a look at my 3mf print profiles. The print profiles can be used with Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer.
