Summary

Use this template/jig to drill holes in the faceplate of a Polaroid Big Shot camera, and get access to the 2 screws which hold on the front section of the camera.

My Big Shot's shutter was not releasing properly, so I attempted to disassemble the camera. I broke the two top uprights holding the fresnel diffuser, then cracked the diffuser itself, then broke a chunk of plastic out of the bottom of the nosecone. Then I accidentally knocked the entire camera off my desk and broke off several more pieces from the film compartment. Then I saw the two screws, and wished I had known where they were, before I started. I think this drilling jig would've helped.

Post-Printing

Place the template over the lens on the front of the camera. Drill through the holes in the template to reach the two screws holding on the front lens/aperture of the camera.

The screws are deep in the faceplate. Your screwdriver needs to be about 1.25" (33mm) long to reach.

I used a Dremel tool on the Dremel drill press stand, though you could probably easily do this with a handheld drill. I used moderate speed, and it never felt like the acrylic was going to crack. I used a small drill bit (around 1/16" or 1- or 2-mm), then I finished with 1/8" (3- or 4-mm).

You're drilling through the clear acrylic fresnel diffuser plate, and a printed paper label underneath. The holes really only need to be as big as your screwdriver, because you can just remove the drill jig/template, then unscrew the screws.
