This is a failed prototype for another project, but it worked well as a way to make clip together platonic solids. Print out the vertices, and the edges, and clip together!
The photos show objects for the octahedron (and a benchy, for scale). A sample with short edges, a vertex piece standing along, and another octahedron with longer edges. Files let you also make cube, tetrahedron, dodecahedron, and icosohedron.
I have labeled this as a customizer, as it is designed to work with customizations. But because the current thingiverse Customizer (at time of publication) uses an old version of OpenSCAD, it won't actually work. Hopefully it will work once this thingiverse updates their version of OpenSCAD; in the meantime you would have to use the OpenSCAD file yourself, which should be easy enough if you have OpenSCAD installed..

Assembly
There are five platonic solids. In each case, you should print out the number of edges, and the number of vertices of the appropriate type.
1) Tetrahedron
Use 4 of the TetraV.stl vertex objected, and 6 edges (long or short as you prefer)
2) Octahedron
Use 6 of the OctaV.stl vertex objected, and 12 edges (long or short as you prefer)
3) Cube
Use 8 of the CubeV.stl vertex objected, and 12 edges (long or short as you prefer)
4) Dodecahedron
Use 20 of the DodecaV.stl vertex objected, and 30 edges (long or short as you prefer)
5) Icosohedron
Use 12 of the IcosoV.stl vertex objected, and 30 edges (long or short as you prefer)
When assembling, orient pieces so that the narrow part of the swedge at the end of the edge pieces is towards the center of the solid. Likewise, for vertices, the narrow end of the wedge shaped slot goes towards the center of the solid.
Note that the snap together is pretty tight. There is a ridge coming out of the wedge at the end of an edge piece, and a matching hole in the slot where the edge clips to a vertex. Push hard to get that ridge into the notch, and it will go home with a definite snap. You can get them apart again, but it is hard work, especially with short edges.
Also note the platonic solids come in dual pairs.
A cube has 6 (square) faces and 8 vertices; the dual ocahedron has 8 (triangular) faces and 6 vertices. Both have 12 edges.
A dodecahedron has 12 pentagonal faces and 20 vertices; the dual icosahedron has 20 triangular faces and 12 vertices. Both have 30 edges.
The tetrahedon is its own dual pair, and has 4 triangular faces and 4 vertices; and 6 edges.
The pictures shows a vertex object for the octahedron (OctoV.stl) standing alone, and an assembled octahedron with short edges. There is also a large octahedron there with long edges, but using an edge design I have not made available. It's basically a long edge, but narrower and with some indentations along it which were for another purpose and which didn't work out. Another design is coming online soon does what I intended much better.)
Customizing
This is designed for use with the customizer, but because the customizer at present (September 2023) uses a very old version of OpenSCAD, it won't work. You are welcome to take the OpenSCAD file and modify the numbers near the front directly to get some variations.
