Summary

I was annoyed from my old, not self designed spool holder, because it was wobbly, weak and ugly - and it had to stand on the floor or the desk. But I have my printer on a special cabinet, the filament is fed from behind and the best way to hold a filament spool is to attach it directly to that cabinet. This litte but stable spool holder even carries the big ones with about 3 kilograms with ease.

The roller discs can be fitted with one or two ball bearings each, I had mine with the full setup of four. Just because I have a whole bunch of them here. If you want so save two, leave the inner ones blank. Also the fitth bearing is optional, it is meant for supporting heavy spools.
There are four different handles to choose from, the evolved while designing and overthinking. My favourite is "Alternative 2", looks a little like these wheel nuts on old fashioned cars.

Additional items needed:
about 10-15 centimeters of threaded rod with metric M8 thread
2 - 4 metric nuts with M8 thread (flat ones)
2 wood screws 3,5 x 20-35 millimeters
2 - 5 Ball bearings for inline skates - 608 type
M8 thread cutter, inside + outside
maybe sandpaper, knife, hammer,

Assembly:
First you should check the threads, if they are not printed very accurate, recut them. After that get the frame mounted to the cabinet or whatever you want it to be. Then put the threaded rod in place, you maybe want to secure it with one or two nuts, I had locked it with one nut facing to the roller disc. Now check the ball bearings to fit into the roller discs. No perfect fit? Same here! I sanded the seats for the bearings a little and got them into place with gentle force... Next step is to fit the nut in the locking handle of your chioce, in my case it is fitting perfect, gently pushed in, no sanding or glueing needed. If you want to use the supporting roller, print the TPU ring (with TPU or what every you have in reach) and put the bearing in place with the two washers. The printed M8 screw (or any other M8x30-40) holds it in place. Last step: Hang in your filament spool and start printing!

And don´t forget to share some photos of your use of this thing!
