Summary

This is a very simple idea for a 3D printable insert that can go into the Lego Control+ hub to replace the standard 6x AA battery case for a single 9V battery. It's a very simple project, requiring nothing other than one printed part and the 9V battery, because the terminals on the 9V battery can interface directly with the contacts on the hub.
While there's not much reason to run an alkaline 9V battery over the standard AA batteries, running a single rechargeable lithium-ion 9V battery allows for easy recharging, as well as higher performance, because voltage stays much more constant after discharging.
By its nature, this battery conversion is likely to reduce battery life considerably, but its easy recharging, low weight, and high performance seem to make it worthwhile.
I've shook the whole module around while running a motor, and didn't experience any interruptions in power, so I think the connection should be secure.
Make sure that you insert the 9V battery in the correct direction, as marked by the + and - on the adapter! It's designed so that it should only fit in one way, but I'm sure someone could force it in backwards if they were motivated...
I recommend printing it right-side up, which requires significant support on the bottom, unfortunately, but still less than any other orientation, I think.
PLA should be fine!

I designed this for the older style of the hub with the clips for the battery cover; I can't confirm if it works for the newer style with the screwed-on battery cover or not!
