Summary

This an (over-engineered) box for a standard deck of 52 playing cards designed to be print-in-place with no supports. It is designed with a unique hinge mechanism that obeys good design practices for 3D printing and does not need support.

It has an overlapping latch to lock closed.

4 Versions!

  • Hex-pattern top and bottom (0.2mm tolerance gap between hinge components)
  • Hex-pattern top and bottom (0.3mm tolerance gap between hinge components)
  • Non-pattern (flat) top and bottom (0.2mm tolerance gap between hinge components)
  • Non-pattern (flat) top and bottom (0.3mm tolerance gap between hinge components)

I can't test every printer configuration, so I'd love your feedback!

    Because this box has a lot of narrow "hallways", I use 6-8 walls (with inner walls at 100% speed) to expedite the printing process and solidify the walls.

    I also recommend printing walls "outer to inner" to minimize risk of rotating parts bleeding together.

    Print without supports.
