A slightly more advanced version of this mechanical iris:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6584006
Compared to the original version, it has a wider opening (as a fraction of the total width) and is suitable for larger blade counts.
While most popular iris designs rely on thin and smooth blades that slide over each other, this design (not my invention) uses thicker blades -- it is more sturdy and printer-friendly.
The design is fully parametric, corresponding OpenScad file attached.
For an iris with K blades, you need to print:
- 1x ir2_frameA_N{K}...stl,
- 1x ir2_frameB_N{K}...stl,
- 1x ir2_frameC_N...stl (same for any K),
- Kx ir2_blade_N{K}...stl.
Print Settings
- Printer brand:
Creality
- Printer:
Ender 5
- Rafts:No
- Supports:No
- Resolution:0.2 or less
- Notes:
everything prints without support, but blades must be put upside-down (relative to their orientation in STLs).
Post-Printing
Every blade requires a ~6x2mm cylindrical pin - can be cut from 1.75mm filament.
4x M2x5 screws are needed for assembly.
