Summary

This is an alternative / improved version of the Water Spike. Instead of dripping water onto the ground, it injects the water into the ground underneath your plants to give them a maximum amount of water without watering the unwanted weeds nearby.

The Water Injector is for smaller bottles (up to 500ml). The Water Injector Maxi is for larger bottles.

PLA works as well, but PETG is strongly recommended due to the high temperatures possible on the dark ground in the hot summer sun.

How to make the Water Injector

The image below shows how the Water Injector is built. It is actually pretty easy, just as the Water Spike:

a: Find a small plastic bottle (500ml in my case).
b: Remove all labels, etc.; unscrew the cap.
c: Cut the bottom of the bottle away. Shorten the bottle according to your needs.
d: Screw the 3D-printed injector to the bottle.

Improvements

Unlike the Water Spike, the Water Injector works both an level and on uneven ground. It should fare better in clay-rich soil, though I have noticed clogging could still lead to issues.

Future Testing

As of today (8/23) more testing is required. I expect it to - in general - work better than the Water Spike, but I have noticed clogging can be an issue under some circumstances. I will investigate further and might update this with an improved version in the future.

The Water Injector Maxi is, so far, untested. I will in the future and update this site.
