Summary

Hello again,

This is yet another remix, this time of my concept of a war time Merchant Navy Vessel.
This is also a call out in memory of my other Grandfather who served in the Royal Merchant Navy in his teens in the 1950’s. She’s modeled in a way in which reflects his ship 15 years previous to his days in service.

With that said, the design follows the Naval tradition of the time, not with all Merchant ships of course. This one would be reminiscent of the HMMS Port Pierre and Port Fiery. They were WW1 retired cruisers, that were no longer suitable to combat and retrofitted over into Cargo Transportation use. I know there’s plenty of Cargo ships here on Thingiverse and on the TV show, however; there never was a Maritime Naval War Time Vessel. That’s right, take a look at some of the harrowing stories, such as the Icelandic Convoys of WW2 from the Great Lakes of the United States to the UK and North Western Russia. These were enormous convoys of ships under constant threat of U Boat attacks and the likes of whatever the Axis powers could throw at them. They had to be armed and expected to fight. This model therefore is no exception. If your ship sunk, the Convoy could not stop to pick up survivors while trudging through the ice.

She has minimal defenses, is a sliced up Hyperion Cruiser and has all the Cranes, Cargo Pods and Radar one would expect a ship of that inference would have. This ship would be the life blood of a colony under attack, desperately needing supplies. If that story line interests you, check out Jeremy Clarksons PQ17.
