Summary

If you want to incorporate auto-shutoff to your 3D printer, you have a few options between wiring your own relay switch or utilizing the popular IoT Relay. When connected to your Raspberry Pi 4b, the wiring can cause a potential problem of being ripped from either end. With this model, your IoT Relay and your Raspberry Pi come together in a single unit that will stay within reach of each other. Included is a wall mountable version (pictured) or a table top. Also included are “custom” hex Raspberry Pi top with a port hole for the wiring.

The IoT Relay can be easily zip-tied onto the mount for secure fastening. Don't be too aggressive tightening them, however, as they'll snap off - but it's good enough to not cause the relay to fall out.

The Raspberry Pi top comes in two variants, with and without a hole for a momentary switch to support turning your Pi on/off safely.

    The stands require supports, but I recommend not printing supports for the zip-tie enclosure or small holes for Raspberry Pi case.

Post-Printing

Wiring

Make a dupont connector, connecting positive end of relay to pin 7 (gpio 4) and ground to pin 9. Leverage Klipper / Octoprint plugin to control the relay through the pin.

For the momentary switch, make a dupont connector, connecting positive end to pin 5 (gpio 3) and ground to pin 6. This supports “wake on lan” when the device is turned off. Then make a linux service using Python with the simple code using gpizero.
