Summary

This is a garage door opener wall button setup that I designed for my Security+ 1.0 LiftMaster garage door opener for use with the RATGDO board designed by Paul Weiland and running Home Assistant. The reason for designing this is that some Security+ 1.0 wall button controllers interfere with the RATGDO board communication with Home Assistant when connected to the setup. With these wall buttons disconnected, the RATGDO communicates just fine.

This can also be used as an extra wall controller that can be placed in another location in your garage or house expanding the functionality.

The design

This controller has been designed for use with the RATGDO controller being used with Home Assistant. It is programmed with the ESPHome firmware and communicates with Home Assistant and not the garage door opener and thus must be set up with automations that communicate with the RATGDO.

The controller was designed to have most of the functionality of the original wall controller that came with the door opener. These include the main door control, a button to lock the remotes out, a button for the light and a PIR motion sensor. The controller is built around the ultra-small XIAO ESP32-C3 microcontroller and runs on WiFi to communicate with Home Assistant using ESPHome.

I designed the case around 2 standard 30mm x 70mm prototyping PCBs that you can buy from Amazon or other parts suppliers. The PIR sensor used is a Hiletgo HC-SR501 module that I had in my parts bin. The buttons used are 4 small PCB mount 6mm x 6mm x 11mm momentary push buttons. 1 for the main button, 1 for the lock button and 2 for the light button. There is a hole at the top of the case for the USB-C connection to power and program the microcontroller. The screws used to mount the PIR and PCBs are 2mm x 6mm screws.

I may add more to this later, but this should be enough information to get you started with this. Feel free to comment with questions or ideas for improvement.
